Let’s face it: Skiing and snowboarding aren’t always the most budget-friendly winter pastimes. But nothing is worse than paying premium rates at a resort only to spend the majority of your ski vacation waiting in long lift lines or getting caught up in a traffic jam. If you’re looking to avoid overspending and crowded slopes this winter, plan a trip to one of these five ski resorts.

Schweitzer Mountain Resort isn’t as accessible as other ski resorts in Idaho, which makes it a secret hideaway for many skiers. You won’t have to wait in long ski lines during the day and can enjoy tackling trails on more than 2,900 acres of land. Beginners to advanced skiers can enjoy spending time at the resort while taking in the breathtaking views of Canada, Washington and Montana in the distance.

Colorado

Copper Mountain is a favorite among locals but isn’t as well known in other parts of the country, which makes it a hidden gem. The ski resort invites visitors to enjoy free Snowcat access on Tucker Mountain and fairly priced tickets for four days spent on the slopes. The varied terrain allows snowboarders and skiers to be separated based on their skill level, which creates a well-organized resort that has an efficient layout.
