A popular local ski destination in northern Utah, Beaver Mountain Resort – or “The Beav” as it’s known to many – opened in 1939 and is still dependent on the natural snowfall on its mostly east-facing slopes.
About 110 miles from Salt Lake City, close to the Idaho border, Beaver Mountain Resort boasts 828 skiable acres that receive about 400 plus inches of snowfall annually.
The resort has a summit elevation of 8,860 feet, with a vertical drop of 1,700 feet, and runs that cater to all skill levels, not to mention two terrain parks. Night skiing is offered from 5 to 9 pm, and the snowsports school provides private and group lessons for all ages, as well as women’s only clinics and an adaptive ski program.
There is slope-side cafeteria-style dining at Beaver Mountain and a mountain yurt at the base of the slopes that can be rented out for overnight lodging – otherwise a wider range of accommodation can be found in the nearby towns of Logan or Bear Lake.
Beaver Mountain Resort is open from December to early April. While this resort doesn’t get as much snow as other Utah ski areas, there is ample powder well into the spring months, when skiers can take advantage of longer days and warmer temperatures. As always, avoid weekends and holidays for the least crowded slopes.

Beaver Mountain Resort offers its Beaver Mountain Yurt – a carpeted and heated sleeping space for groups and families looking to get first tracks in the morning after breakfast at the resort lodge.
In nearby Bear Lake, the Ideal Beach Resort is right on the lakeshore, with condos that have full kitchens. In Logan, the SpringHill Suites by Marriott Logan features rooms with kitchenettes, an indoor pool and a free hot breakfast.
Beaver Mountain is 27 miles east of Logan, Utah, but the closest major airports would be Ogden-Hinckley Airport (about an hour and a half from from the resort) or Salt Lake City International Airport (about two hours away). Shuttles and car rentals are available from both airports.
By car, Beaver Mountain is 73 miles from Evanston, Wyoming, and 111 miles from Soda Springs, Idaho.
